Sajūtu varētu pielīdzināt ar atrašanos nākotnes lidaparātā, kad caur stikla sienām nesteidzīgi vēro kā garām aizslīd mākoņi, tikai šeit debesu vietā norisinās ikdienas ainiņas.
Līdzīgi kā izcilas maltītes baudīšana, šīs grāmatas iepazīšana paģēr nesteidzību. Viņas radītie objekti ir izmainījuši pilsētvides sejas visā pasaulē. Uzņemti ne bez devas kritikas, bet arī saņēmuši nozīmīgus apbalvojumus un atzinības, tie liecina, ka Zahas Hadidas sarežģītā elegance piestāv gan arhitektūrai, gan dizaina pasaulei.

The Complex elegance
Is there some magic wand in the hands of the Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid which allows the unimaginable flight of her fantasy to turn into even more incredible architectural forms? In the creation of breathtaking buildings, is the lead fiddle played by talent or enormous work capacity? Publishing house Taschen large-format edition Hadid. Complete Works 1979 – 2013 offers the chance to find an answer to these questions in a visual way by looking at the most important stops in Zaha Hadid’s more than 30-year career.
One of the most impressive ways to become familiarized with Hadid’s script, for me personally, has been visiting The Magazine restaurant designed by her in Kensington Gardens in London. This place really took my breath away – the irregular shape of the space gives an impression of endless waves, which take those enjoying a meal into an alternate reality. The food, although delicious, plays second fiddle, because the interior, that begins in the exterior, constantly attracts the eyes. The feeling could be equated to being in a futuristic aircraft, and leisurely observing the clouds passing by through glass walls, only here, everyday scenes take place instead of the sky.
Similar to excellent dining, the exploration of this book insists on leisure. It suits evenings, a wine glass, and long hours of visual travel through the book pages, learning about the most impressive works of this modern architecture star. She likes to provoke, to tear down borders, the word “extravagant” sticks to her works as a synonym, but as the architect herself succinctly points out: “I have always admired those who dare to experiment with materials and proportions.” And Hadid is the best embodiment of this assumption – The MAXXI: National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, the London Aquatics Centre, the Guangzhou Opera House are only some of the grand stops in the world’s architecture map. The Pritzker Architecture Prize, which is referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture, received in 2004, is yet more proof that Zaha Hadid is a phenomenon – she is the first woman to be honored with this award.
The book offers a look at not only the architect’s large scale projects, but also the chance to get to better understand her cooperation with the fashion and design world. Ranging from light objects and the iconic Aqua Table, up to the vision of the Z-Car, in which futuristic forms Hadid’s handwriting is clearly legible. “Why have I got involved in the fashion world? Because it concentrates in itself a daily mood – just like music, literature and art,” admits Zaha Hadid flirtatiously. A successful cooperation with the shoe brand United Nude allows anyone to figuratively get in a skyscraper designed by the architect – exactly that the shoes so strongly resemble. For its turn, the cooperation with the shoe grand-master Stuart Weitzman has allowed the architect once again to fulfill the dream of form and material experiments – the footwear has been created from cork, gold, rubber… The cooperation last spring also resulted in an opening of a footwear boutique in Hong Kong, whose mesmerizing interior’s author is Hadid.
“Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do” – it seems that this legendary Apple Think Different ad text fits Zaha Hadid’s philosophy so damn well as if it were written about her. The objects created by her have changed the urban face worldwide. Welcomed not without a dose of criticism, but also having received important awards and recognition, they indicate that Zaha Hadid’s complex elegance suits both the architecture and the design world.
